Project Runway One: Et Tu, Brute?

Judges: Before we decide who's auf'd in this challenge about clothing in 2055, we'd like to ask Wendy about Kevin's performance.

Wendy: Why thank you for thinking so highly of me. But I'm a bit reluctant to give my opinion about my fellow designers seeing as how I have to live and work alongside them. And Kara HAS been helping me with my hair and makeup.

Judges: You look spectacular as always. Now tell us what you really think or we'll auf you right now.

Wendy: Since you want my sincere opinion about these yahoos, here's what I said earlier. Click here.

Judges: Well, Wendy, that was enlightening. We suspect that your relationship with your cohort might change a wee bit from now on. Tell us a bit about Kevin's performance as a leader.

Wendy: Only because you asked, as I'd never, ever betray a fellow designer, here's what I think: Click here.

Judges: Thank you, Wendy, for sparking this spirited discussion among your fellow designers. Considering the catfight that will ensue, we wish we could give you a different room at Atlas and space to work in at Parson's, but our cheap producers haven't budgeted for such a contingency. Have no fear. You've only a few more challenges to go. We wish you luck in the next few weeks.

Wendy: All I ever wanted was to survive long enough to be in the top three. Having just torpedoed Kevin and knowing that Robert is merely coasting along, my only REAL competitors are Jay, Austin, and Kara Saun. So thanks for considering my welfare.

Project Runway One Recap: How Could They?

For those of us watching Project Runway One reruns with the Project Rungay guys, Jay Mc Caroll wuz robbed in the Banana Republic challenge. Completely! What WERE the judges thinking to give it to Lolly Pepper?

She of the misapplied Bette-Davis-in-Whatever-Happened-to-Baby-Jane makeup?

Did ANYONE purchase her Little Miss Batgirl in Training outfit? If so, please step forward. I dare you to admit it.

Now look closely at Jay's design and drool.

Do you know why Jay lost? Economics! Banana Republic would have lost its shirt if it had to mass produce such a beautiful creation for a sum that Ms. Average American could afford. (Photos of the intricate quilted detailing in the bodice sit on the Project Rungay blog. )
Jay's dress echoes Art Deco and its inspiration the Chrysler Building perfectly and fit in with the overall Banana Republic theme of that season. But boy-o-boy, not even a troop of legal Mexican seamstresses with green cards in their pockets could have made this creation under budget.

Overall I was pleased with Episode Three. The excellence of the designs in this competition seemed to spring out of nowhere, since heretofore only Jay, Kara, and Austen showed any outstanding design promise. As for Starr, my suggestion is that she hold on tight to that law degree now that she's been auf'd.

HEY, STARR! The court jester just called. He wants his collar back!

Lolly Peppered, Part Deux

Just when you think things can't get worse, Lolly has whipped up more fashion-trocities. Remember the audience's reaction to this Wendy Pepper peeka-boobs original at Fashion Week? (Project Runway Season One)

Lolly must've mistaken their horrified expressions for ecstatic approval, 'cause she recently designed another peeka-boobs top, only this one is for the gravity challenged.

Rorschac Test Dress

Dishrag Dress

Hanging Swag dress. Yikes! I think the model's gonna puke.

Even Lolly gagged when she saw this mess and yelled at her model for "Not working it!"

But have no fear, gentle reader, if La Pepper's fashion career fails to take off, she's already proven her mettle in the party business.

Lolly Peppered

Which outfit would you purchase: The one designed by the fabulous Laura Bennett, or one created by raving lunatic Lolly Pepper (Wendy, the bitch monster from Project Runway Season One?)

Fabulous Mommy sewed this Josephine Baker inspired creation under extreme duress and time pressure, and won that week's challenge for her efforts.

While Lolly Pepper, who has enjoyed two years in the fashion spotlight, could only conjure up this nightmare.

Compare and contrast, gentle reader. There ain't no contest here.

Now, let's take a look at our designers: Which one would you trust to design your next outfit with your hard earned dollars?

Fabulous Mommy three months pregnant and standing next to her muse?

Or Ms. Botox Lolly?

Aaargh! Snarkfood.
